High Fever
- Lethargy
- Shivering frequently
- Other signs of being unwell (not eating, vomiting, coughing, nasal discharge)
- Take and record the rectal temperature.
- If it is above 103 F, call your veterinarian. If it is above 106 F, proceed immediately to the vet's office.
- For temperatures above 105 F, mix water and rubbing alcohol 50:50. Sponge this on the abdomen and paws of your pet and direct a fan on them.
- Apply slightly cool water to the top of the head.
- Allow your pet to drink small quantities of fresh water at a time often.
- Do not overtreat! Discontinue cooling efforts once your pet's temperature drops to 103 F.
- Do not give aspirin or other drugs. Many of these are poisonous to pets.
