About me
My name is Christy Shoup, and I have been practicing small animal veterinary medicine in the greater Annapolis/Baltimore/Columbia area of Maryland since 2002. I am a 2001 graduate of Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine, where I had the occasion to meet Isaac Mayo, one of the co-authors of the First Aid reference I used for much of the information on this site. I even have my autographed copy of the book!
I am currently working as an associate veterinarian at Olney-Sandy Spring Veterinary Hospital in Sandy Spring, Maryland (since November 2018). This website was created as part of a lecture I gave in 2012 about emergency medicine at Bay Ridge Animal Hospital in Annapolis (some of the information here still reflects that).
I only work on these websites in my spare time -- the degree of completeness is HIGHLY variable! At that time I started this website, my Dalmatian was 2 years old and a budding therapy dog. We had a lot more free time! Since then I took on the responsibility of raising service puppies! My Dalmatian and I have cut back on our therapy dog visits for this new mission. I have had two successful puppies go through my home: a hearing assistance dog (Wrigley) and a mobility assistance dog (Maya), both with Fidos For Freedom. They are now with their forever partners. In July of 2020 we welcomed an 8 month old labrador retriever named Kirk for socialization and training and hope for her to be successful as well!
Websites in progress:
www.petdrchristy.com - A variety of general medical topics for pets - changes frequently as things are added.
www.petdiets.weebly.com - Dog and Cat Nutrition & Weight Loss - This website is in the very early stages.
www.saoirsesspots.weebly.com - If you need to see more Dalmatian photos...and really, who doesn't?
